People I work with
Our research unit was created in 2003 and got the highest grade (A+) at both 2007, 2010, and 2014 AERES Research Assessments. Research units are still assessed but there is no grade anymore. Our unit is organized into several research groups like all research units or departments within French Universities.
I am a member of the ‘Ecological and Evolutionary Diversification of Populations’ group which includes seven CNRS researchers, two professors, twelve lecturers, and several graduate students. None of us has a ‘lab’, strictly speaking. We share facilities and expertise to favour collaborative work as much as possible within the group and also with other groups within the research unit. While the French system may look very odd to the rest of the world, it has some strengths as long as team spirit, creativity, and knowledge remain a collective aim but this works only if core funding is relatively important in comparison to individual grants (unfortunately this is no longer the case).
PhD students
Barbara Freitas (co-supervised with B. Mila and D. Gil) works on the evolution of song and its role in bird speciation
Amandine Vidal-Hosteng (co-supervised with R. Aguilée) works on island biogeography models
Marine Ha-Shan (co-supervised with L. Chikhi) works on historical demographic inferences using genome data
