What I am interested in

Picture

I aim to understand how  ecological and evolutionary processes combine to shape the diversity of species, with a particular emphasis on plants and animals living on remote islands and hyperdiverse regions. Questions I seek to answer through my research are for example: Why do some geographical regions accumulate more species than others? Why do some lineages of organisms contain more species than others ? How do new species form?

I combine field research, mostly in the Indian Ocean islands and also New Guinea  across a range of different organisms, with molecular systematics and population genetics.

Keywords

  • community assembly in islands
  • evolutionary dynamics underlying species diversification
  • speciation in island plants and birds
  • hybrid zones
  • island biogeography
